Don't wait until it's too late to prepare for an emergency. PrepareWise.com helps you be ready when disaster strikes with their affordable -- and tasty -- Premium Legacy freeze dried food storage products. We placed an order with PrepareWise to share with you what the process is like from start to delicious finish.

Ordering from PrepareWise.com

The PrepareWise website is easy to navigate, and they conveniently sort their products into plenty of categories to help you narrow down your food storage search. We opted for one of their single bucket packages, which packs all of your meals in a secure and easy to carry 4-gallon bucket. Below is the 32 Serving Family 72 Hour Emergency Food Kit that we ordered. This is perfect to have on hand in case of unexpected power outages or severe weather that may prevent you from being at your house for a few days. Just throw the bucket in your car and you have instant meals ready to go!

Normally $88, this 32 serving kit is on sale for $76. That works out to just $2.37 per serving. They offer free shipping on all orders, so the price you see is the price you actually pay. Their checkout process is simple, and once you submit your payment, your shipment leaves their warehouse within 48 hours. Shipping to the continental U.S. takes 3-5 days depending on your location, so you can expect to receive your package in about a week after you place your order.

Unboxing Our PrepareWise Delivery

Our package arrived on schedule, and it was smartly packed in a box just big enough to fit the food storage bucket. No waste here! We love that every Premium Legacy food product from PrepareWise has a guaranteed 25 year shelf life, so once you build your food supply, you're set for a long time.

Their food is all made and packaged in the U.S. also certified as non-GMO, and they have gluten-free options for people with wheat sensitivities. We opted for the standard version, and inside our food storage bucket were 8 individual packets with 4 servings of each entree. They label the outside so it's easy to know what meals are inside each bucket.

We did notice that most of these meals are rather high in sodium, and this is a pitfall of almost all brands of dehydrated foods. However, we like the PrepareWise shows customers the nutrition information for every one of their food products right on their website so you can be an informed consumer before you make your purchase.

Preparation & Taste Test

While we realize that these are mainly intended for emergency preparedness and survival, we think they also make great options for quick camping meals. Heck, we'd even make them at home when we're just feeling a tad lazy or uninspired by whatever those leftovers are in the back of the fridge. We decided to do just that and try out the Legacy Stroganoff from the comfort of our kitchen with no disaster at hand (other than a giant pile of laundry that never seems to shrink, but that's for another post).

We're big fans of simple instructions, and it doesn't get much easier than this. All we had to do was just boil some water, add the mix from the packet, stir and let it cook for about 12 minutes. It clearly reminds you (shown above in bold and all caps) to remember to remove the oxygen pouch before cooking. However, we'd like to note that it's pretty easy to remove said oxygen pouch from boiling water with a pair of tongs should you fail to heed those instructions.

We were impressed with the amount of stroganoff this recipe yielded. It definitely seemed like enough to feed four adults. Even if you were in a pinch and didn't have any side dishes, you would probably still leave the table satisfied. While it didn't quite taste "homemade," the stroganoff had great flavor and the consistency was also nice. It definitely wasn't runny, but it also wasn't congealed like those questionable hot lunches from junior high. Despite the rather high amount of sodium in the recipe, it didn't taste overly salty. Overall we were quite pleased with the Legacy Stroganoff and would definitely order it again.

In summary, we found that ordering emergency food from PrepareWise was easy and affordable. The price per serving makes it a great deal, the packaging makes it very easy to store, and you wind up with a handy bucket for hauling water or other uses. Preparing the dehydrated food was simple and straightforward, and perhaps most importantly, the food tasted great! We definitely recommend PrepareWise for your food storage needs, or for anyone looking to stock up on quick, easy meals. Bon appétit!
