Are emergency vet visits and procedures covered by Healthy Paws pet insurance?

Pets often have emergencies that require urgent care, despite your best efforts to keep them safe. If your dog or cat needs to seek emergency care, Healthy Paws will reimburse you for that coverage at the same rate you are covered for primary veterinarian care. That means you are able to visit any licensed 24-hour emergency animal hospital so your pet can receive urgent care when they most need it. 

With this plan, you are able to visit specialty hospitals for surgery or treatment without the need for referrals. Those specialty hospitals include emergency or critical care, orthopedic specialists, oncologists, ophthalmologists, internal medicine experts, neurology, radiology, and cardiology.

Which procedures or conditions are not covered by Healthy Paws pet insurance?

If your pet has hip dysplasia, it will only be covered by Healthy Paws if you enroll your pet for pet insurance before they are six years old. After you've enrolled your pet, there will be a 12-month waiting period before hip dysplasia coverage can kick in, except in Maryland and New Hampshire. Also, preventative care, dental healthcare, pet diets,  and examination fees aren't included.

Are medicines and vaccinations covered by Healthy Paws pet insurance?

Healthy Paws Plan does not cover standard wellness vaccines; however, if your pet needs prescription medicines, your pet insurance plan from Healthy Paws will cover them, as long as they are ordered by a vet.

How long is the waiting period after enrolling with Healthy Paws pet insurance?

Healthy Paws requires a 15-day waiting period after your policy effective date, except in Maryland and New Hampshire where waiting periods do not apply. If your pet is enrolled before they turn six years old, there will be a 12-month waiting period for hip dysplasia.

How do I file a claim with Healthy Paws?

Take a photo of your veterinary bill and submit it into your Customer Portal through either the Healthy Paws App or website.

How do I pay my Healthy Paws premiums? Do I have an option between paying monthly vs. paying annually?

With Healthy Paws, your monthly premium will show up on your credit card or debit card each month on the same date. They'll accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit or debit cards.
